This class “Introduction to Japanese Studies” is a JICA lecture course in English open for all the students at Kyushu University. It offers a series of fifteen lectures given by fourteen faculty members, who are also experts from a variety of fields at Kyushu University.
Fourteen lectures discussing Japan’s modernization are organized under three categories: 1) history and culture of premodern Japan; which provide a foundation for the understanding of the pre-context of Japan’s modernization.2) Japan’s modernization process in a variety of fields, including linguistics, agriculture, economy, politics, law, literature, history, urban space and visual culture, etc.
3) lessons and experiences of “modern development.” Kaihatsu, and its social consequences.
Through these classes, we hope you will gain informative knowledge about Japan, as well as a comparative perspective about Japan and your own country.
